Home Moving Planners felt compelled to share the story of one of our clients Ron. Home Moving Planners was contacted on Thursday the 14th of November, desperately by Woodard’s Blackburn with whom we closely work with, to help Ron prepare his house for settlement in three days! What a task we thought! Clearing a house for settlement can be a huge task depending on the state of the property! However Home Moving Planners never see a job as too little, too large or too difficult due to time. We were up for the challenge!
However we weren’t quite prepared for the magnitude of the job we were about to take on. Ron met us at his front door with a cheery hello and a big cuddle! But despite his cheery demeanor we could see the stress lining his face as to what on earth he was going to do to get his house ready in three days time!!
Ron had accumulated years and years worth of treasured possessions and they hid in every corner and cranny of his property. Unfortunately as Ron was downsizing we had to work very closely with him when sorting through the possessions he was to take and what was to be repurposed, as he did not have the space to put all of his possessions in! Ron had a story for each of his possessions and we had to guide him when deciding what to take, as he naturally wanted to take everything that he owned! This was a difficult process for Ron and he needed the emotional support and someone to listen to him when talking about his possessions, as many had stories relating to his wife who had recently passed away.
However, when we first accepted the job, we were under the impression that Ron had someone to help him organize the loose odds and ends that involved with moving house. Ron unfortunately did not have any family to help him get this task done. As we genuinely care about our clients wellbeing and needs, Home Moving Planners then had to quickly call up our contacts and organized, removalists, appointments with Ron’s lawyers and his retirement village to determine settlement to move into his new place, sold his unwanted furniture, and organized to help him pack and unpack his new possessions. We also arranged to buy a new fridge to fit Ron’s new place and had it sent to him!
We will go above and beyond our expected job so that our clients are looked after. Without our help and our connections Ron would have received a large fine for not having his house ready for settlement, let alone would not have been able to move into his new place.
Three days later we had sorted through all of Ron’s possessions, packed items and labeled all the boxes he would be taking to his new house, organized removalists, rubbish and charity pick up, and assisted with his moving day, sold his unwanted furniture and then unpacked and set up his new house while he was out for a few hours!
We found this job incredibly rewarding. In the few days that we worked with Ron, we felt like we had know him for years and started to joke and laugh like old friends! The look on our clients face when we go above and beyond what we originally were asked to do and to genuinely help someone through a difficult lifestyle change makes all the hard work worth it! Ron gave us hugs and said that he would not have been able to do any of this “without his girls” and that he couldn’t thank us enough. He was particularly shocked at how his new house was completely set up in a few hours and that when he came back it “felt like he was walking into home” and he didn’t have to do any of the stressful or tiring tasks.
We have promised Ron that we wouldn’t lose contact and that his girls would visit him for regular lunches! We care about our clients and we love getting to know them and their life stories.
